FC Westchester U16s Defeat FC Greater Boston 2-1; U18s Tie FCGB 2-2 in U.S. Soccer Development Academy Action

Boston, Mass. (Feb. 28, 2010) -- After taking a late December through February break in the season, the FC Westchester U16 and U18 U.S. Soccer Development Academy teams began play again Sunday, with the U16s taking a 2-1 decision over FC Greater Boston and the U18s tying with FCGB in games played in Canton, Mass.

In the U16 match, in the match’s 10th minute, FC Westchester’s David Alemany took a pass from Brian Kenny, spun and stuck the ball into the left corner to give FCW an early 1-0 lead. About 20 minutes later, FCW struck again, when Cesar Ceja banged home a header offer a service from Ryan McNamara for the 2-0 lead.

The lead stood up until a minute into extra time when Greater Boston brought one back to make the final score 2-1.

In the U18 match, FCW also went ahead, getting a goal early in the second half from Brian "Cobi" Span, but then gave up two late goals, only to tie the game in the last minute when Keegan Carter put home a goal during a goal mouth scramble off a free kick.

Both teams next play Sunday at Purchase College when they host Oakwood SC in 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. matches.
