Seven members of FC Westchester have been chosen for Super Y-League ODP National Select Teams. They were selected based on their performances at the recently-held Super Y League ODP National Camps held in Cocoa, FL and were chosen from among player pools amounting to 200 players in each age group.

Josh Renner of the FC Westchester ’89 Boys was named to the SYL ODP ‘88/’89 National Select Team, while John Gallagher of the FC Westchester ’90 Boys was named to the SYL ODP ’90 National Select Team.

Meanwhile, Thomas McNamara of the FC Westchester ’91 Boys was selected to the SYL ODP ’91 National Select Team, and brother Ryan McNamara, Michael Abraham, Marques Mayoras and Andres Penfold of the FC Westchester ’93 Boys were named to the ’93 SYL National Select Team.

Members of the selection committee for the ’88/’89/’90 age groups included coaches from prestigious colleges and universities from around the country: Mike Parsons of Penn State University, Todd Yeagley of Indiana University, Chad Riley of Notre Dame and Ernie Yarborough of the University of Michigan, among others. Also on the selection committee were coaches from some of the most prestigious soccer clubs in the country.

Members of the selection committee at the National Camp held for the 1991, 1992s and 1993s, included members of the U.S. National Staff, as well as coaches from several of the country’s prestigious clubs.

According to the SYL, “some players selected to the Super Y-League Select Team will be recommended to the U.S. National Team Coaching Staff. USL will also be exploring opportunities to provide these players with domestic or international exposure to enhance player development.” Likely on the agenda for those selected will be a summer trip to Germany.
