The FC Westchester ’91 Boys have once again won the the State Cup, topping East Fishkill 3-0 in the finals of the U16 age group in a match held in Saratoga Springs, NY. on June 3. It is the ’91s second consecutive State Cup and third cup title in the past four years.
The ’91s now move onto the 2007 US Youth Soccer Regionals to be held in Portland, Maine from June 28 to July 3.
In the finals, the ’91 dominated the first half, but didn’t score until Roger Alayo banged one home with one minute left before the break. Then, in the second half, the 91s continued to dominate the game and scored two more times, getting a goal from Joe Posillico 15 minutes into the second half and another fine tally from Aaron Markowitz 10 minutes from the final whistle..
"Both our offense and defense really clicked today,": said ’91 Coach Edgar Quirgoa who lauded a total team effort. "This is a tremendous feat for this team to win a second consecutive cup and third cup in the last four years."
Quiroga said he his coaching staff are confident that the team can continue the momentum from the State Cup win at the regionals in Maine. Last year, the ’91s went unbeaten in the regionals, but didn’t move on due to goal differential.
