FC Westchester U18s Clinch U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoff Spot With 1-1 Tie Vs. Albertson
The FC Westchester U18 team clinched a spot in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy playoffs with a 1-1 tie Wednesday night against Albertson in a game played at Mitchell Field. The evening after, the FC Westchester U16s topped Albertson 4-1, sparked by two goals from Andres Penfold.
In Wednesday's U18 match, Albertson scored first about eight minutes into the match, but then FC Westchester evened the score in the 44th minute when Brian "Cobi" Span served a strong corner into the box that was headed in by FCW’s Stephen Reisert. FC Westchester then played a tight defense in the second half to hold onto the tie and a place in the U.S. Soccer Development playoffs to be held June 25-29 in Greensboro, N.C.
In Thursday night's U16 match against Albertson at Tully Park on Long Island, FC Westchester got on the board in the 10th minute when Steven Arraiano got taken down in the box and Ryan McNamara converted a penalty kick. Then in the 33rd minute, Gabe Stauber took a pass from Cesar Ceja and put the ball home from 12 yards out to make the score 2-0.
Just a minute into the second half FC Westchester made the score 3-0 when Penfold took a Ceja pass. Albertson scored in the 60th minute, but Penfold clinched the game and made the score 4-1 in the 80th minute on goal off a pass from Chris Joseph.
FC Westchester's U16s and U18s next games is Saturday against Seacoast in New Hampshire.
