Porras Named First Winner of Lucas Goldbaum Memorial Scholarship

Jorge Porras, who plays with the FC Westchester 1995 U15 Pre-Academy team, was honored Sunday as the first recipient of the Lucas Goldbaum Memorial Scholarship, The award of the scholarship was made at the club’s Annual General Meeting.

The scholarship honors Lucas Goldbaum , a member of the FC Westchester 1996 team that won the 2009 Eastern New York State Championship. Lucas was not only a great goalie, but also a tremendous teammate. Off the field, Lucas was smart, sweet, and popular, and an extraordinary young boy full of courage beyond his years. The FC Westchester family was well aware of his battle against an inoperable brain stem tumor. Ever the courageous young boy, Lucas fought valiantly against his condition for almost two years until passing this past May 12, 2010.

The purpose of the scholarship fund is to provide financial support to a player with an athletic, academic and character profile similar to Lucas.. The Scholarship Committee consists of Lucas’ mom,Kathleen O’Connell, as well as FCW board member Juergen Moessner and FCW coach James Quiroga.
