FC Westchester Ranked #12th Nationally in Super Y League
TAMPA, FL – United Soccer Leagues has announced the Super Y-League First and Second 11 Club rankings for the 2006 season, recognizing the league’s top competitive and administrative clubs.

For the second year in a row, FC Westchester was recognized as one of the top clubs in the Super Y League, ranking 12th nationally.

United Soccer Leagues’ Super Y-League launched a new club ranking system in 2005 with the top clubs ranked from 1-22 and separated into the First and Second 11. The rankings are based primarily upon the on-field results - winning percentage accounting for 70 percent of the score. Minimum standards and operations completes the other 30 percent.

“The criteria used to rank these clubs is basic yet essential to the Super Y-League’s philosophy of providing a professionalized atmosphere for the top youth players in North America,” said Managing Director of Club Development Matt Weibe. “The Super Y-League wanted to salute those clubs who consistently succeed not only on the field but off the field as well.
FC Westchester and the Super Y League

F.C. Westchester represents the area in the Super Y League (www.SuperYleague.com) a North American youth soccer league for elite level players that is considered the "Premiership" of youth soccer leagues in the United States.

The Super Y League is part of the United Soccer Leagues (USL) and the United States Soccer Federation. Made up of the top 1% of youth soccer players in the U13-U17 age groups, the Super Y-League is designed to provide hard-core competition in a professional environment on a regional and national level.

F.C. Westchester fields teams in the Under 13, Under 14, Under 15, Under 16 and Under 17 Boys age groups. FC Westchester also fields a team in the USL Super-20 League, which is an outgrowth of the Super Y League and serves as an adjunct to the United Soccer Leagues’ PDL Program.

For the past two years, F.C. Westchester has sent at least two teams to the Super Y League Nationals, which are held each November in Tampa, Florida.

Importantly, the Super Y League has received ODP status from US Soccer. Super Y has designed a scouting system as a means to identify players for Regional ODP Select Teams. Once these teams are formed, identification weekends in Florida are conducted in January for the US Soccer National Team Staff to evaluate these players.

F.C. Westchester teams play in the Super Y League’s Mid-Atlantic Region against other elite clubs, including Red Bull NY, D.C. United, the Brooklyn Knights, the Long Island Rough Riders, Match Fit Academy, F.C. Delco, TSF Academy, City Islanders of Harrisburg, PA, SuperNova of Pennsylvania, the Ironbound Sporting Club and Hockessin Soccer Club of Delaware, among others.

"The best thing for player development is having our best players play with and against the best players as often as possible," said Sean Kenny, F.C. Westchester’s Executive Director or Coaching and Player Development. "The Super Y-League does just that."

The commissioner of the USL, Francisco Marcos, notes that teams playing at the highest levels in the United States have shown a strong commitment to youth development and the Super Y-League. Organizations such as Red Bull NY, D.C. United, the Chicago Fire, the Atlanta Silverbacks and other top-level sides all have youth teams playing in the Super Y-League.

F.C. Westchester Super Y League teams play home games at Purchase College in Purchase and at Iona College in New Rochelle.
